Power is power.
At a petrol station, you see the price on the sign before you pull in. At a charger, you first have to find the right app and work out whether the price is pay-as-you-go or needs a subscription. You can't do that while you drive. With Elmer, you know the price before you leave home.

What does a year with an EV cost you?
Answer three questions. We work through every way of paying for charging in Denmark: pay-as-you-go, subscription and all inclusive, at home, on the street and at rapid chargers. You get the yearly cost and can see at how many kilometres another option becomes cheapest.

More details share away, home charger, electric heating, solar panels, electricity tax
The Danish electricity tax (elafgift) has been cut to almost zero in 2026 and 2027. From 2028 it rises again by about 0.90 DKK/kWh incl. VAT. That does not apply to electricity you charge through a home charger with a tax refund (until the end of 2030).
Use your own meter data optional, via Eloverblik
Eloverblik is Energinet's portal for your own electricity data. With it we look up your grid company, electric heating, solar panels and your EV charging instead of guessing.
- Log in to eloverblik.dk with MitID (Danish digital ID).
- Open the menu (☰ top right) and choose API-adgang (API access). Don't choose Datadeling (data sharing); that is for sharing your data with another person.
- Tap + Opret token (create token), give it a name (e.g. "Elmer"), tap Opret (create) and copy the token. If Eloverblik asks whether your CPR number may be used, say yes. This only happens the first time.
- Paste it here and tap Fetch my data.
Your data stays with you. Your browser fetches the figures directly from Energinet; they are not sent to us and are not stored. The token is forgotten when you close the page. You can delete the token again on eloverblik.dk under API-adgang.

Rapid chargers, nationwide providers
The price without a subscription (pay-as-you-go, called ad hoc in Denmark), converted to one price per kWh for a 40 kWh charge so you can compare. The figure is the median of the provider's rapid chargers (50 kW and up).
The DKK column is the price for 40 kWh. Prices come from the operators' AFIR data (the EU rules that require open charging data) at Dataudveksleren, Denmark's national access point; where the feed has no price, we use the rate the operator publishes. The price shown on the charger applies.

What is a kWh at home made of?
In Denmark, electricity at home is the spot price, your local grid company's tariff (nettarif), the tariffs of Energinet (the national grid operator), electricity tax (elafgift) and 25% VAT. The grid tariff is lowest at night, and the electricity tax has been cut to 0.8 øre (0.008 DKK) per kWh in 2026 and 2027.
Your address determines the grid company. The price guide looks it up, and with a token from Eloverblik it can use your own meter data. The data is fetched directly in your browser and is not sent to us.

Have a lease offer? Private leasing or flex leasing
Enter the offer and it is added to the comparison above. In Denmark, private leasing (privatleasing) is an ordinary lease; flex leasing (flexleasing) is a lease where the car is registered for the period only. We have no lease prices ourselves because they change all the time.
