Charging programmes from car brands

Many car brands sell their own charging card to owners of their electric cars. It can give you a low price on long trips, but only on the right networks.

What is a car brand's charging programme?

You charge with the brand's app or charging card on many different networks. Most programmes are run by a roaming provider. Digital Charging Solutions (DCS) runs the programmes for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, MINI, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Lexus and Volvo, among others. Plugsurfing runs Polestar's, and Elli runs those of Volkswagen, Škoda, Cupra and Audi. Porsche's programme is built around IONITY.

How the price works

You pay a fixed amount each month and get a lower price per kWh. Some brands have a fixed price per network, for example one price at IONITY and another everywhere else. Others give you a percentage off the operator's own price. The roaming provider does not publish that price in advance, so you only see it in the app. Most brands have several tiers: a cheap one with a small discount and a more expensive one with a bigger discount.

IONITY and the preferred partners

Many programmes give the lowest price at IONITY. DCS also has a set of preferred partners in Denmark: IONITY, Norlys, Uno-X, OK and Fastned. The price or discount there is usually better than elsewhere. On Elli's cheaper tiers, networks other than IONITY cost the operator's price plus a surcharge and 2.90 DKK per session. If you mostly charge elsewhere, you get less out of the programme.

Free at first

When you buy a new electric car, a period without a monthly fee is often included. It is 3 months with Mercedes-Benz, 6 months with BMW and MINI (contract by 31 December 2026), and up to a year with Porsche (3 years for the Cayenne Electric). Cancel the programme if you do not want to pay once the period ends.

Brands without Danish prices

Ford, Nissan, Zeekr and the Stellantis brands (such as Peugeot, Citroën and Opel) also have charging programmes, but we have not found public prices for Denmark. Renault's Mobilize Charge Pass no longer seems to be sold in Denmark, and XPENG works with Clever. If you know the price from the brand's app, you can add it as your own programme in the app under Settings › Charging cards › My subscriptions.

Tesla

Tesla owners charge at Tesla's Superchargers with the Tesla app. Owners of other brands can charge at selected Superchargers. At four Danish stations, other brands paid 3.60 DKK/kWh without a membership on 11 October 2026. With Tesla's membership at 85 DKK a month, the price is 2.60 DKK/kWh. The price is set per station and time of day.

Does it pay off?

Do the sums as for other subscriptions: divide the monthly fee by what you save per kWh. If you save 1 DKK/kWh and pay 90 DKK a month, you need to charge 90 kWh a month on the right networks. On long trips or a holiday abroad, the programme can pay for itself in a single month. If you mostly charge at home, it is rarely worth it, so cancel it between trips.

What to check

Which networks have the lowest price, and do you charge there?
Is the price fixed, or is it a discount on a price you do not know?
Is there a fee per session on other networks?
When does the free period end, and what does it cost afterwards?
Does the programme work in the countries you are going to? See charging cards and roaming.

In the Elmer app

In the app you can choose your brand's programme under Settings › Charging cards › My subscriptions. The app then shows your own price at the chargers where the programme gives a discount. If your programme is missing, you can add it as your own programme in the app.
