EV holiday in the Netherlands
The Netherlands is one of the easiest countries to drive an electric car in. Chargers are close together, and electric cars may enter all low-emission zones.
Getting there
You drive through Germany, usually past Hamburg and Bremen. Remember the green environmental sticker if you go into German cities on the way.
Charging networks
Fastned started in the Netherlands and has charging stations along many motorways. Shell Recharge, Allego, IONITY and Tesla also have many rapid chargers. At Allego you can pay without an app or card. See more in EV charging networks in Europe.
Road toll
Cars do not pay to use the Dutch motorways.
Low-emission zones
The Dutch low-emission zones only apply to diesel vehicles. Electric and petrol cars may enter all of them, and you do not need to register the car first. Some cities have zero-emission zones, but they only apply to vans and lorries.
Speed
The limit is 50 km/h in towns and 80 km/h on country roads. On the motorway it is 100 km/h from 6:00 to 19:00 and 130 km/h at other times, unless signs say otherwise.
